Synchronicity or fate, call it what you will, has conspired to have me in the right place at the right time to take their portrait, and I thank the people I have worked with for letting me in – for putting their trust in me, whatever the explanation – to open up so I can get through to the real person.
I can only describe the experience of a shoot working well as feeling a natural high, when people deliver what you want. I photograph people for who they are, to take an honest image of them; whether that shows vulnerability, or sadness, if they come across as happy, or fulfilled, fun, humorous, whatever the emotion, that’s what they have/could give.
As Ansel Adams said: “If words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. If images becomes inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
